This event will focus on private equity capital markets and investment strategy as the macroeconomy shows recovery signals but domestic real estate, historically a cycilical lag, continues to suffer. The issues to be focused on include:

Where is the private market in the delevering process and what is the resulting opportunity set?
What investment strategies have been successful in raising capital in 1H 2010? What strategies are expected to be successful going forward?
For plan sponsors thinking about raising debt funds, are they too late to the game?
When might equity strategies ("straight up purchases of real estate") make sense again on a risk adjusted basis? What are the macroeconomic or market-based considerations necessary for equity investments?
What changes have occurred in fund structures (regarding corporate governance, alignment and transparency) and how will those changes affect the real estate private equity model going forward?
When will the broader and real estate-related job market recover?

The goal of the event is to provide DC and YLG members with exposure to industry professionals that is not readily available. The Symposium will consist of an evening spread followed by a sit down panel discussion followed by a short Q&A.
